REBATE
FAQS

Natural Gas is an economic step to optimizing the energy in your home.

Download either the existing home, new home or commercial property form. Then login to your utility account and click the "Requests" tab to submit the form and other required documents. You may also email them or return them by mail to: Customer Operations 435 N. Macomb St., Tallahassee, FL 32301

Who May Participate: City of Tallahassee natural gas customers in the Leon, Gadsden, and Wakulla areas, including new customers connecting where gas is available

Rebate Amounts: $150-$700* (see details below)

  • Ranges and Ovens
$200 Rebate - Upgrade to Natural Gas
$150 Rebate - Replace Existing Natural Gas Appliance
Expert chefs prefer gas cooking. Why? 1) Flames heat pans uniformly. 2) Heat starts and stops fast. 3) Experienced chefs learn to gauge exact heat levels by sighting the height and shape of burner flames. 4) Gas range tops are particularly well suited to canning and specialty cooking with woks. 5) A gas oven provides extremely accurate temperature control, plus or minus ½ degree. 6) In a gas oven the air is moist. For that reason gas is especially preferred for baking breads and pastries. 7) Operating a gas range costs about 30% less than electric.

  • Clothes Dryers
$200 Rebate - Upgrade to Natural Gas
$150 Rebate - Replace Existing Natural Gas Appliance
Clothes dry faster with gas but the heat isn't bone dry - it has some moisture. Clothes smell fresher and feel softer. Operates for about 50% less cost than electric.

  • Tank or Tankless Water Heaters
$675 Rebate - Upgrade to Natural Gas
$300 Rebate - Replace Existing Natural Gas Appliance
The newer natural gas tankless water heaters heat your water on demand and deliver hot water as long as you need it. Learn more about water heater financing.

  • Furnace
$700 Rebate - Upgrade to Natural Gas
$350 Rebate - Replace Existing Natural Gas Appliance
Heats rooms quickly and even on the coldest days it breezes 120 to 125 degree air from room registers. The typical setup: A gas furnace matched with a cool-only central electric air conditioner. This is a system that lasts a long time: The gas furnace only operates in winter, the electric air conditioner only operates in summer.

Convert to clean, efficient natural gas for your cooking and heating needs. Find out if natural gas is available in your neighborhood. The City will connect gas from street-to-house for no charge if the customer uses a natural gas water heater or furnace. Appliance installations must be permitted and inspected by City or County Growth Management in order to receive rebates.

The City of Tallahassee's rebate and energy-efficiency loan programs can help you invest in your home or business. Your heating or plumbing professional can help you find qualifying, high-efficiency natural gas equipment that best fits your needs.

Residential Rebate Terms

Rebate Conditions and Requirements:

  • If required by City or County Building Inspection, an appropriate installation permit and inspection or sticker must be obtained from the authorized local Building Inspection jurisdiction (City of Tallahassee, Leon County, Gadsden County, or Wakulla County, as applicable).
  • Rebates are subject to change without notice and are subject to approval.
  • You must have or install a natural gas water heater or furnace to receive range or dryer rebates.
  • Your paid receipt(s) for appliances purchased, and your paid invoice(s) for contractor installation charges, must be submitted with application.
  • Rebates are applied as a credit to a Homeowner's City utility bill; or, for gas appliances installed prior to Certificate of Occupancy (CO) in New Construction, provided as a check to Homebuilder.
  • Rebates cannot exceed the total installed cost for the appliance(s).
  • Rebates will not be given for stub-outs; appliances must be installed.
  • Rebates will only be paid for newly-purchased appliances or appliances converted from propane, NOT for used appliances purchased after-market.
  • Rebates are limited to one for each type of natural gas appliance at a given address.
  • Replacement appliance rebates (column B) are for natural gas-to-natural gas appliance replacements.
  • $2,000 Gold Package Bonus applies to first-time installations of a water heater, furnace [or a combination appliance], and either a gas range or dryer, all installed in one job at the same time. (The $425 "Gold Package Bonus" brings the total rebate to $2,000.)
  • "Combination appliances," which heat the home as well as the water, qualify for the furnace + water heater rebates ($1,375) only if a complete new system is installed (new high capacity gas water heater, hydronic loop and controls).
  • If the Homeowner wishes to have the rebate issued as a check to his or her Installing Contractor that should be indicated on this form or on the contractor's installation proposal that is signed by the Homeowner.
  • This application must be completed entirely and submitted within 12 months of final inspection for rebates to be paid.

Please see the rebate application form for the most current conditions and requirements.
